Description
Origin
Shazar Stone Craft originates from the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The name “Shazar” is derived from the Persian word “Shazarad,” meaning tree-like, a reference to the naturally occurring dendritic (tree-shaped) patterns found within these translucent quartz stones. These striking patterns are formed by mineral inclusions over thousands of years, making each stone unique. Historically, Shazar stones were highly valued for their natural beauty and were widely used in jewellery and decorative objects.
Process of Making
The creation of Shazar Stone Craft involves a careful blend of natural selection and skilled craftsmanship:
- Stone Extraction – Shazar stones are responsibly sourced from the Ken River in Banda district.
- Selection – Stones displaying well-defined and aesthetically pleasing tree-like patterns are handpicked.
- Cutting and Polishing – Skilled artisans precisely cut and polish the rough stones to reveal and enhance their natural formations.
- Crafting – The finished stones are transformed into jewellery, pendants, and decorative items such as paperweights and showpieces.
Life Span
Shazar Stone Craft products are exceptionally durable due to the natural hardness of quartz. With proper care, these items retain their shine, clarity, and structural integrity for generations, making them ideal for both daily wear and long-term decorative use.
